Teacher Recruitment

Make a difference...WANTtoTEACH.wcu.edu

There are huge rewards in the field of teaching that can be matched by no other profession.

We invite you to learn about Western’s outstanding programs, discover which areas of education are most in need of quality educators, familiarize yourself with the NC Teacher Cadet program, and contact us with your questions.

Exceptional Programs
The College of Education and Allied Professions at Western Carolina University offers students a variety of licensure options.

Become engaged in a rigorous and competitive curriculum that will thoroughly prepare you for the ever-changing, high-demand field of today’s education.

Learning Community
The WheeTeach Living and Learning Community (LLC) is a unique opportunity that is offered to incoming Freshman who have declared education majors.

Students tend to feel disconnected from the College of Education and Allied Professions and from other education majors because they typically won’t take their first education course until the first semester of their sophomore year.  This LLC helps to build bonds early in a student’s career at WCU.

Teacher Shortage Solutions
To assist with the national issues surrounding the teacher shortage crisis, Western Carolina University and Teacher Recruitment have implemented recruitment support programming, the Teachers of Tomorrow Reaching to Teach Conference for High School and Middle School Students.

High Needs Teaching Areas
North Carolina’s high need teaching areas and greatest shortage areas provide a formidable challenge now and in the future.

Over the next decade North Carolina school systems and charter schools will employ over 100,000 new teachers, with more than 12,500 new teachers employed annually in the state.

Instructional Technology Support
Our College provides educational and research support through consultation, instruction and equipment checkout (e.g., cameras, voice recorders) through the Instructional Technology Support.

About WCU

"I had such a great time introducing WCU's College of Education to Smoky Mountain High School's Future Educators of America. It is always refreshing to revisit why I chose Western and to share my passion for education with others."
