Western Carolina University is a regional, public university whose primary mission is to serve the state of North Carolina (a member of the University of North Carolina system) and the people of Western North Carolina. Cultural diversity is important to the educational and economic prosperity of the state and region; therefore, WCU enrolls students from approximately 40 countries each year.
In some instances, federal, state or university regulations may affect the availability of certain programs, resources or services (i.e., scholarship and financial aid restrictions), but WCU offers many opportunities for international student enrollment.
An Intensive English Program allows students to increase English proficiency for students who seek to qualify for admission to higher education degree programs at WCU or other institutions. Many WCU undergraduate and graduate programs appeal to international students as well.
The office of International Programs and Services (IPS) provides much support to international applicants who seek to enroll at WCU and to international students during their enrollment at WCU. Whether you are a prospective student, an applicant, an admitted student or an enrolled student, IPS is a valuable resource for you. From the annual International Festival to International Education Week to the office’s newsletter, The Globe, IPS helps support international students and celebrate the cultural diversity they bring to our campus.
