Western Carolina University has been providing education and training programs for Jamaican teachers since the early 1970’s!
Western Carolina University is not accepting applications for the Jamaica Program.
After much deliberation, consideration, and with deep sadness, we are discontinuing degree programming in Jamaica at this time. Current Master is Education cohorts (those beginning in 2022) are following a teach-out plan that allows enrolled students to complete all degree requirements.
At this time, it is our plan to pursue the expansion of professional development opportunities for Jamaican and other teachers abroad, through virtual experiences, where appropriate, and shorter-term, in-country workshops where a need has been expressed (see upcoming programs under the Professional Development tab).
NOTE: These degree programs were designed to meet the learning needs of teachers in Jamaica and do not qualify as a certification program for teacher licensure in North Carolina or any other state in the US.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS:
Reading Research to Classroom Practice (RRtCP)
Start Date: January 3, 2024
Registration Deadline: December 10, 2023 (11:59pm)
Reading Research to Classroom Practice (RRtCP) is an online professional development
about evidence-based reading strategies. The content includes instruction based on
the principles of reading (phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and
comprehension). This session will include interactive lessons, guided interventions,
and seat work that will prepare the participant to effectively implement reading practices
within their classrooms. In addition, based on the level of completion and proficiency,
the participant will earn a certificate as RRtCP trained.
Western Carolina University is not accepting applications for the Jamaica Program.
Bachelor's Programs
WCU's BSED in Inclusive Education degree program in Jamaica has been discontinued.
NOTE: We are not accepting applications for new Bachelor degree cohorts in Jamaica.
Master's Programs
WCU announces the discontinuation of the MAED degree programs in Jamaica. Efforts
are underway to teach out current cohorts in Kingston and Montego Bay. More information
on the remaining schedule of courses and course make-ups (if applicable) will be forethcoming.
Transcripts are available free of charge for all students in good financial standing.
NOTE: We are not accepting applications for new Master degree cohorts in Jamaica.
