Statement of Academic Intent

Any student that ceases enrollment for one (1) fall or spring semester while being below Good Academic Standing (Academic Warning, Suspension, or Dismissal) is required to submit an application as a returning student and a Statement of Academic Intent.

If you are a student who took a fall or spring semester off while on Academic Warning or were previous suspended or dismissed, you can return to WCU by completing the following steps:

  1. Submit an Application as a Returning Student. Applications must be complete before students are reviewed. Contact the Office of Admissions at (828) 227-7317 for any questions regarding the application.
  2. Submit a Statement of Academic Intent (below). Contact the Office of Student Retention (828) 227-7171 for questions regarding the Statement of Academic Intent process.

Returning students below Good Academic Standing cannot return without completing both steps above. Statements of Academic Intent are reviewed monthly by the SAI Board comprised of staff members across campus. If approved, the Office of Student Retention will contact students using the email address listed on the Statement of Academic Intent with next steps, including completing an Academic Action Plan, contacting their advsor, and registering for classes.
