The Compass program is designed to provide additional guidance and support for first-generation, low income, or independent students. All first-generation, low income, or independent students are eligible to apply, and are accepted into the program based on available space and need. In addition to access to all services provided by MAPS, students accepted to Compass are matched with a MAPS academic coach who serves as a coach, mentor, and guide throughout their academic journey at WCU. Students meet regularly with their MAPS academic coach for individualized consultations regarding a variety of topics, such as academic, social, personal, and career exploration and planning.
Students admitted to WCU can apply by completing this Compass Intake Survey. All applicants who meet eligibility requirements will be considered for the Compass program. However, our program accepts a limited number of students each semester.
Students are encouraged to complete the intake survey as soon as they receive their acceptance to WCU. Upon completion, you will receive an email about connecting with a MAPS academic coach for support throughout the semester. If you have questions about the survey, or Compass support options in general, please contact us at maps@wcu.edu or 828.227.7171.
