The purpose of Call Me MiSTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role models) at Western Carolina University is to increase the pool of available teachers from diverse backgrounds in the Western Carolina region and across the state of North Carolina.
With racially and ethnically diverse students emerging as the majority population in our public schools, it is vital that our students see teachers that look like them in their public school buildings and classrooms.
All MiSTERS will receive:
Call Me MiSTER® Scholars Must:
1. Complete the Call Me MiSTER Interest Form. Once we have received your form, program staff will contact you to talk about the
following steps.
2. Apply for FAFSA
3. Apply and be accepted to WCU
4. Submit the Call Me MiSTER application through myWCU (In the My Financial Aid Status box, click on the Scholarships tab to locate the
CCM application)
5. Selected candidates will be invited for a Call Me MiSTER interview process on WCU's
Cullowhee campus
6. Though the program is designed to increase male teachers of diverse backgrounds
in the region and across North Carolina, the program is open to all students without
regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression,
national origin, age, disability, genetic information, political affiliation, or National
Guard or veteran status.
