Founded in September 1984, North Carolina’s Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) is the business and technology extension service of The University of North Carolina, which oversees the 16 constituent institutions of the University. The SBTDC is administered by North Carolina State University and operated in partnership with the US Small Business Administration. With a lead center located in Raleigh, NC, the SBTDC operates 10 regional service centers in 16 total offices and six specialty programs to provide management counseling and educational services to small and mid-sized businesses. Most of our services are free of charge, and all are confidential. By providing entrepreneurs with the tools they need to build and grow successful businesses, the SBTDC positively impacts NC’s economy.
The SBTDC at Western Carolina University operates two offices in Asheville and Cullowhee, serving the 14 far western counties with counseling for small businesses including international business development, market research, and access to private equity, strategic growth services, technology development, and government procurement.
Our Asheville office serves Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, McDowell, Polk, Rutherford and Transylvania counties.
The Cullowhee office serves the counties of Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson, Macon and Swain.
